Eye On…May

This May I’ve picked out 3 watches that have caught my eye over the past month. This is a new section that I will add each month.

I have picked these for mainly their design, over their specs, the reason being is I feel I am like most other watch lovers that, sometimes all the technology, the specs, history, etc, all go out the window unless the watch actually looks good. And I feel that there are a lot of people out there that frankly couldn’t give two shits about what the watch does just as long as it looks good and people know that the wearer spent his hard earned cash on a good looking expensive watch.

Now saying that watches have I picked out for this first instalment of Eye On In…

Alpina Alpiner AL-247
Bremont U-2/51-JET
Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered

Alpina Alpiner AL-247

Firstly like I stated above I prefer this watch with a bracelet over a leather strap - just my preference, I know a lot of people find the leather straps far more comfortable than some metal digging into your wrist. This and maybe the Apliner4 are the only two models of the Alpiner that grab my interest. I like the sharper look of the watch and sporty feel it gives. The classic blue face and the red highlights on the hands hold that sporty look.

Alpina Alpiner on rocks

I honestly think, everythough this is not competing with Omega and is not a “Diver”, I feel this is a great alternative to the likes of an Omega Seamaster Diver 300M for a snippet of the price at $995.00

With a bracelet.

There’s something about big bold numbers of watches - like a Nixon Corporal. That just offers a little more umph and badassness about them. This Bremont to me is just more of a stealth look, I can see someone with a little more of a darker side to them wearing this watch.

But as you would expect, it’s clean, simple, and the triangle on the top just adds a more flair to the dial. I’m sure someone can fill me in the comments on the relation of the triangle to an aircraft. Second hand at a little over $3,000 I would.

Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered

Whilst the above two watches are more geared towards adventure, the Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde is just pure elegance. When I first saw it i instantly thought of a planet and moon, then I saw some promotional graphics and yes that seems to essentially be what the design is representing. Of course this is the black jade coloured version.

Definitely for me a night out watch that would grab some attention to those who clock on to it. I like a little bit of red gold now and again on a watch, nothing wrong with it being 18k as well. Would I drop $8,000 + on this watch though? Meh, probably not. I prefer watches that are a little stronger in appearance
